MEIC Scan at Go
Taxpayers near a MEIC Scan and Go Intake Site site can have their taxes prepared and filed for free by IRS certified volunteer tax preparers. This is a “drop off” program which means that interested taxpayers will meet with an IRS-certified volunteer to have their tax documents scanned into a secure system so that their taxes can be prepared, off site. The taxpayer will return the following week to review and sign their prepared return before it is filed. The initial intake or “drop-off” process will take about 30 minutes and the final review, or pick-up, of the tax return will take about 15 minutes. After the drop-off and before the pick-up, the taxpayer will have to be available to speak to the preparation site over the phone and have access to an internet capable devise where they can see a draft of their return. All tax returns will be quality reviewed for accuracy and no scanned taxpayer documents will be kept after the return is approved by the taxpayer and e-filed.
To have your taxes prepared through the MEIC Scan and Go program, your 2018 income must be $55,000 or less and you must make an appointment at the intake site. For the 2019 income tax filing season, the intake sites will be in Shiawassee and Gratiot Counties. The Shiawassee County intake site will be at the Vernon Public Library. In Gratiot County, the intake sites will be at the public library in St. Louis. Contact the intake site for more information or email CEDAM at virtualtaxes@cedam.info
